The Science of Reading
Enhance Your Expertise: Unveiling the Science of Reading for K12 Professionals
In January 2024 a list of states was published – these states were selected as states to watch because they had recently passed legislation rooted–supposedly–in the “Science of Reading”. Now, whether it’s legislative rules dictating school and teacher practice, or a curriculum advertising their product, the term “Science of Reading” has been a powerful tagline, a rallying cry, for change, reform, as well as staying the course.
But what exactly is the science of reading, and how has it made its way to the legislative floor, onto news headlines, and into our classrooms?
Jessica Camacho, with degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, among others, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the topic of reading and literacy. Her rich background in education, from curriculum design to classroom teaching, informs her unique perspective, and she's eager to share her expertise on the Science of Reading and its implications for effective teaching and learning
